Text Box: Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. How is the donation money spent?
A. 96+% of donation money goes directly to the horses and their care, both environmentally and physically. Your contributions pay for full boarding, rehabilitation, training or retraining, feed, hay, medical treatment, farrier work, dental work and other incidentals such as feed supplements. The other 3% or so remaining helps pay for office supplies and to help BERI staff attend training seminars, association meetings and the like to further enhance our various rescue-oriented programs and public awareness efforts. NO ONE RECEIVES FINANCIAL CONSIDERATION FOR THEIR WORK WITH BERI. We are ALL volunteers.
Q. How do we rescue horses, and how do we decide who is to be rescued?
A. Horses have come to us from all sorts of circumstances. By sheer luck, Johnny Ringo, our first horse, was brought to our attention by word of mouth in a used car lot. Others have been rescued by our staff by literally outbidding the slaughter man to save their lives at auctions. Still others had no place to go when owners no longer could care for them...
As far as how we decide...fortunately we have not had a case of "this horse OR that horse..." Yet. That is why it is so important to BERI to get donations and sponsorship to enlarge our facilities. To have that extra space available for  when, not if, the day comes.
Q. How do I go about adopting a horse?
A. Adoption is a wonderful thing. By adopting a horse from BERI, you actually save the lives of two horses. The one who is adopted and the one we can rescue that will take their place at the Rescue Facility! To adopt a horse and take him home to a new career, just contact us directly by email or phone- any of the contacts listed to the left on this page, and we would be delighted to take you through the simple process to match you up with a 'lifelong' companion- horses often live into their late twenties and thirties easily! They will be your best friend if you are paired with the right one!
